Famous names in ‘De week van het Metropole’
Wednesday 8 July 2009
The Metropole Orchestra will give three concerts in the Heineken Music Hall at the beginning of October. The musicians will share the stage with three distinguished artists: Rob de Nijs, Trijntje Oosterhuis and Roisin Murhpy. These vocalists each represent the current best in their own genre.
Rob de Nijs
On 1 October Rob de Nijs will sing with the Metropole for the second time. Orchestra, singer and audience alike have exceptionally good memories of his jubilee concert in a sold out Carré at the beginning of 2008. So this is a repeat. This time fourfold Edison winner Eric Vloeimans, jazz trombone, will make a guest appearance at the De Nijs’ concert.
Trijntje Oosterhuis
A day later, on Friday 2 October, the Metropole Orchestra will accompany singer Trijntje Oosterhuis. During this concert she will sing songs by Burt Bacharach. Previously together with the composer she has recorded two very successful albums with his music. They are The Look of Love and Who’ll Speak for Love. Orchestra and singer have appeared together in the Heineken Music Hall before. They have given two sold out concerts here in 2007.
Roisin Murphy
Roisin Murphy, the singer of Irish origin, initially became famous by her appearances with Moloko. In The Netherlands this band scored an enormous hit with Sing it back. Murphy has been performing solo since 2005. Over the past few years she has grown into a pop diva and style icon. Her latest album, Overpowered, dates from 2007. It is a modern mixture of pop and disco.
Hed Kandi Afterparty
During Roisin Murphy’s performance on 3 October her well-known dressing-up is expected as well. After this concert Hed Kandi will provide The Hed Kandi Afterparty. Hed Kandi represents ‘the best funky club house in a stylish outfit’.
