Four stars for Ruud Breuls' 'Shades of Brown'

Recenltly T2 Recordings has released  the CD 'Shades of Brown' of Ruud Breuls and The Metropole Strings. This is an ode to trumpet player Clifford Brown who died prematurely. Standards like 'Embraceable you' and 'Smoke gets in your eyes' are 'treated lovingly making the listener 'subtly melt', according to Maartje den Breejen in Parool of 2 June last.

Ode to Clifford Brown

Gert-Jan Blom, artistic producer of the Metropole Orchestra took the initiative for this record. Ruud Breuls, trumpet player of the Metropole Orchestra and a big fan of Clifford Brown's, was the obvious person to perform the trumpet part. The strings of the Metropole Orchestra, which participated in the recording of 'Shades of Brown', refer to the last of Clifford Brown, which he recorded with strings as well one year prior to his death.

'Shades of Brown, a tribute to Clifford Brown' is the registration of a concert given in 2009 at the Bimhuis. The CD has been awarded four stars by the daily 'Het Parool'.

Pink Records

Earlier the site of Pink Records had already published: 'Bimhuis, Amsterdam, 25 June 2009 - '... became a memorable evening. After a performance by Piet Noordijk, Ruud Breuls appeared with Hans Vroomans piano, Frans van Geest bass, Marcel Seriese drums and the Strings of the Metropole Orchestra. They played 'A tribute to Clifford Brown'. With standards like a.o. 'Portrait of Jennie', 'Yesterdays' en 'Willow weep for me' the audience was treated to a fantastic concert.

This evening has been recorded and after frequent requests will now be issued on CD. 'Shades of Brown' is a lovely jazz album which, next to the marvelous sound of Ruud Breuls, once again emphasizes the versatily of the Metropole Orchestra.'
